Sometimes, we grow inwards

Reaching deep down to the dark

Of pain, of defeat, of reclusive evasiveness.

Thoughts intermingle, like roots beneath the earth

Suffocate one another, grow warped and twisted;

The poison seeps deep within

Of bitterness, of unhappiness

Of blame games, of fault-lines

In others, in self.

It is here, that we need to pause,

Look outward, at sunshine and light.

Seek help, companionship, among those

Whose branches wave high in the fresh air

Of selflessness, of vision, of compassion.

It is in looking far beyond our own selves,

Away from our small, limited circles of in growth

That we discover our simple truth of being.
