Kishkinda Kanda 28…The Fourth Sopan Ends

hanumanjialways

Kahayi reechpati sunu Hanumana/ Ka chup saadhi rahehu balvana//

Pavan tanay bal pavan samana/ Buddhi bibek bigyan nidhana//

The king of bears Jambavan then spoke thus: ‘Listen, Hanuman! Why are you so silent?’

‘You are the son of the Wind God and equal to him in strength! You are the epitome of intelligence, wisdom and knowledge!’

Note: Due to a curse in his childhood (when he annoyed sages due to his great powers and naughtiness) Hanuman was supposed to be forgetful of his immense powers until he was reminded by somebody.

**

Kavan so kaaj kadin jag maahim/ Jo nahim hoyi taat tumh paahim//

Ram kaaj lagi tav avatara/ Sunatahim bhayavu parbatakara//

‘Is there any insurmountable task in this world,  that you cannot accomplish with ease?’

‘In fact your birth purpose is to carry out the assignment of Lord Ram!’ Hearing these words, Hanuman grew into the size of a mountain!

**

Kanak baran tan tej biraaja/ Manahu apar girinh kar raja//

Simhanaad kari barahim baara/ Leelahim naghavu jalanidhi khaara//

His hue was golden; his body’s radiance was mind boggling; he looked like another Sumeru-the king of mountains!

Hanuman let out a series of lion- like roars! He said, ‘Even as child’s play, I can cross this ocean easily!’

**

Sahit sahay Ravanahi maari/ Aanavu iham trikut upaari//

Jambavant mai poochavu tohi/Uchit sikhavanu deejahu mohi//

‘I can kill Ravan and all his followers, uproot Trikuta Mountain and bring it back here!’

‘Hey Jambavan! Tell me what I am supposed to do!’ (Please guide me!)

**

Etana karahu taat tumh jaayi/ Sitahi dekhi kahahu sudhi aayi//

Tab nij bhuj bal Rajeevanaina//Kautuk laagi sangh kapi sena//

(Jambavan said) ‘Hey son! Just go and see Sitaji, and return with her news.’

The lotus eyed Lord shall kill Ravan with his own hands and reclaim Janakiji. He is taking the monkey army with him as a part of his Leela.

**

Kapi sen sangh sanghari nisichar Ramu seetahi aanihaim/

Trailok paavan sujasu sur muni naradaadi Bakhanihaim//

Jo sunat gaavat kahat samuchat param pad nar paavai/

Raghubeer pad padhoj madhukar das tulsi gaavai//

With his monkey army, Ram shall kill the asuras and bring back Sitaji. Then all the sages like Narad and the Gods shall glorify the Lord; an act  which shall purify the three worlds. Hearing of which, singing of which, speaking of which, understanding of which, human kind shall attain the Lord’s abode. The honey bee buzzing around the lotus feet of Lord Ram, Tulsi Das sings the Lord’s praises.

**

Doha

Bhav bheshaj Raghunadh jasu sunahim je nar aru naari/

Tinh kar sakal manoradh siddh karahim Trisaraari//

Sri Ramji’s story is the single antidote to the disease of constant births and deaths.

Any man or woman hearing His story, shall have all their dreams fruitful by the blessings of the enemy of Khar (Lord Ram)

**

Nilolpal tan syam kam koti sobha adhik/

Suniya taasu gun gram jaasu naam agh khag badhik//

The divine Lord whose bluish hued body is as beautiful as a blue lotus, whose radiance is more than that of a thousand Kam Devas (The handsome God of Desire),

Whose Name is the predator of all the birds called mortal sins; one should hear about His glorious qualities.

**

Iti Sreemadramcharitmanase sakalkalikalushvidhwamsane chaturthah sopanah samaptah/

The Fourth Sopan of Sree Ramcharit Manas- which ends all the sins accrued in Kaliyug- ends here.

Kishkinda Kanda…Hearing about a furious Laxman…22

ramdurbar

Charan nayi siru binate keenhi/Lacchiman abhay baah tehi deenhi//

Krodhvanth Lacchiman suni kaana/ Kah kapees ati bhay akulaana//

Angad paid obeisance at the feet of Laxman. Then Laxman pulled him up warmly and reassured him. (Do not fear!)

Sugreeva, meanwhile, heard about the anger of Laxman and became petrified.

**

Sunu Hanumant sangh lai Tara/ Kari binate samuchayi kumara//

Tara sahit jaayi Hanumana/ Charan bandi prabhu sujas bakhana//

(Sugreeva said ) ‘Listen Hanuman, take Queen Tara with you! Apologise to the Lord and appease him!

Hanumanji and Tara went to Laxman and bowing before him,  sincerely praised the greatness of Lord Ram.

**

Kari binate mandir lai aaye/ Charan pakhari palank baidaye//

Tab kapees charananhi naava/ Gahi bhuj Lacchiman kand lagaava//

They ushered him to the palace politely. After washing Laxmanji’s feet (welcoming ritual) they offered him a seat.

Sugreeva came in and lay prostrate at Laxman’s feet. Laxmanji got up and embraced him.

**

Nadh bishay sam mad kachu nahim/ Muni mann moh karayi chan mahim//

Sunat bineet bachan such paava/ Lacchiman tehi bahu bidhi samuchaava//

(Sugreeva said) ‘Lord, there is nothing as addictive as sensual pleasures. Flesh and its pleasures can provoke even the greatest of saints in a moment!’ (And I am such a worldly creature who got caught by these entanglements and foolishly forgot my assigned task!)

Laxmanji was calmed by the sincerity and politeness of those words. He consoled Sugreeva.

**

Pavan tanay sab kadha sunaayi/ Jehi bidhi gaye doot samudaayi//

Then Hanuman appraised Prince Laxman about how groups of messengers had been dispatched to various directions to search for allies.

**

Doha

Harashi chale Sugreev tab Angadadi kapi sath/

Ramanuj aagem kari aaye jeah Raghunath//

Laxman led the way and following him, Sugreev, Angad and others went to meet Lord Ram.

**

Nayi charan siru kah kar jori/ Nadh mohi kachu naahin khori//

Atisay prabal dev tav maya/ Chutayi Ram karahu jaum daaya//

Bowing before Lord Ram’s feet and folding his hands Sugreev said as follows…

‘ Lord, I am not to be blamed for my stupidity! Your worldly maya (illusion) is so strong; and one can escape from its clutches only when you take compassion on your devotee!’

**

Bishay basya sur nar muni swami/ Mai paavar pasu kapi ati kaami//

Naari nayan sar jaahi na laaga/ Ghor krodh tam nisi jo jaaga//

‘Hey Lord! The Devas, the humans and the sages are enraptured by maya! And I am nothing but an inferior animal and that too a lowly monkey!’

‘Only the one who cannot be conquered by the arrow tip of a woman’s glance can remain untouched by blind fury.’ (He will stay awake even in the dark night of anger.)

17. Kishkindha Kanda…Hoyi Achal Jimi Jiv Hari Paayi

hanumanji

Chhudra nadim bhari chali torayi/Jas dhorehu dhan khal itarayi//

Bhumi parat bha dhabur paani/ Janu jeevahi maya lapataani//

The small streams are destroying the shores as they make their way forward, similar to wicked men losing their sense of decency on acquiring even small amounts of wealth (they become arrogant with power). On falling on the earth, the  rain water has become muddy; like a pure soul getting trapped in illusion or Maya!

*

Samiti samiti jal bharahi talaava/ Jimi sadgun sajjan pahim aava//

Sarita jal jalnidhi mahu jaayi/ Hoyi achal jimi jiv Hari paayi//

The water is accumulating in ponds, like spiritual qualities, one by one, become part of a good man. The water from the rivers merges with the ocean and becomes finally serene and still; like the soul on attaining SreeHari, gets freed  from the birth and death cycles and achieves stillness.

*

Doha:

Harit bhumi trin sankul samucchi parahim nahi pandh/

Jimi pakhand baad tem gupt hohim satgrandh//

The earth has become covered with grass and has turned green all over, and the pathways have disappeared.  It is similar to a hedonistic approach taking over, and the teachings of the spiritual books becoming ignored or sidelined.

*

Dadur dhuni chahu disa suhayi/ Bed padahi janu battu samudayi//

Nav pallav bhaye bitap aneka/ Sadhak man jas mile bibeka//

The croaks of frogs resound from all four sides in tandem, as rhythmic as a group of  young initiates reciting the Vedas

The trees are looking splendid with new, green leaves; like a devotee’s mind becomes resplendent on acquiring true wisdom

*

Ark jawas paat binu bhayavu/ Jas suraj khal udyam gayavu//

Khojat katahu milayi nahi dhuri/ Karayi krodh jimi dharmahi doori//

The Madar and Jawasa trees have shed their leaves, like the wiles of the wicked cannot continue under a good king’s reign. One cannot discover dust even on searching; it is akin to Dharma getting driven away when anger takes over the mind

*

Sasi sampan soh mahi kaisi/ Upkari kai sampati jaisi//

Nisi tam ghan khagoth biraja/ Janu dambhinh kar mila samaja//

The earth is luxuriant with harvest crops, radiant like a good man’s prosperity. The fireflies group together in the heavy darkness of the night, similar to boastful coxcombs having a meeting.

*

**

15. Kishkindha Kanda…Ati Kripal Raghubeer Subhavu

SreeRam

Ram kaha anujahi samuchhayi/ Raj dehu Sugreevahi jaayi//

Raghupathy charan nayi kari maadha/ Chale sakal prerit Raghunaadha//

Then Lord SreeRam asked his younger brother Laxman to coronate Sugreev as the King. Following the Lord’s exhortation, everyone paid obeisance to Him and left the place.

*

Doha

Lacchiman turat bolaye purjan bipra samaj/

Raju deenh Sugreev kah Angad kah jubraj//

Laxmanji immediately convened a meeting of all citizens and the Brahmins. He coronated Sugreev as the King, and made Angad the crown prince (yuvraj).

*

Uma Ram sam hit jag maahim/ Guru pitu matu bandhu prabhu naahim//

Sur nar muni sab kai yeh reethy/ Swardh laagi karhi sab preethy//

Hey Uma! ( Says Lord Shiv) In the world, there is no one like SreeRam who always does good to everyone- no Guru, father, mother, relative or mentor will be as well wishing as Him. Whether it is Gods, Humans or Sages, typically everyone is selfishly motivated and acts pleasingly from his or her self-interest.

*

Baali thraas byakul din raathy/Tan bahu bran chintham jar chaathy//

Soyi Sugreev keenh kapiravu/ Athi kripal Raghubeer subhavu//

Sugreev, who used to be terribly afraid of Bali both night and day, whose body was full of grievous wounds, whose chest would burn due to anxiety always, The Lord made that very Sugreev the King of the Monkeys! SreeRamji is extremely compassionate in nature.

*

Jaanathu as Prabhu pariharahaim/Kahe na bipati jaal nar parahim//

Puni Sugreevahi leenh bolayi/Bahu prakaar nripneethi sikhayi//

Those who do not seek the protection of such a Lord (those who let go of such a Lord), it is but obvious that they will get trapped in the illusionary traps of this mortal world. Lord Ram called Sugreev to his side and taught him the various wise principles of Ruling (Art of ruling).

*

Kah Prabhu sunu Sugreev hareesa/ Pur na jaavu das chaari bareesa//

Gat greesham barsha ritu aayi/ Rahihavu nikat sail par chhaayi//

Then the Lord said-Hey King of the monkeys, Sugreev! I shall not be returning to my home for the next fourteen years. The summer has passed and the rains have begun. I shall reside in the mountain nearby.

*

Angad sahit karahu tumh raaju/ Santat hridayam dharehu mam kaaju//

Jab Sugreev bhavan phiri aaye/Ramu Prabhashan giri par chhaye//

You rule the kingdom along with Angad. Keep my work in your heart at all time. When Sugreevji returned to his abode, the Lord went to the mountain called Prabharshan and took up residence there.

*

Doha:

Pradhamahim  devanah giri guha rakhevu ruchir banaayi/

Ram kripanidhi kacchu din bas karahinge aayi//

The Gods had already made a cave  in that mountain  beautifully suitable for the Lord’s rest. They had known that SreeRamji would be staying for a few days therein.

*

Kishkindha Kanda-14 Ab Nadh Kari Karuna

IMG_2147

Ab nadh kari karuna bilokahu dehu jo bar magahu//

Jehim joni janmau karma bas tah Ram pad anuragavu//

Yeh tanay mam sam binay bal kalyanprad prabhu lijiye/

Gahi bah sur nar nah aapan das Angad kijiye//

Hey Lord! Take compassion on me and grant me a boon that I seek . In whichever womb that I shall be born again, grace me with eternal devotion to Your feet!  Hey Lord of plentiful grace! Here is my son Angad: equal to me in strength and character. Accept him as your own protege. Lord of men and gods!  Embrace him, and make him your devoted servant.

*

Doha:

Ram charan drid preeti kari Bali keenh tanu tyag/

Suman mal jimi kand te girat na jaanayi naag//

As effortlessly as a flower garland slips off the neck of an elephant, Bali’s life spirit became wholly attached to the Lord and he relinquished his mortal body.

*

Ram Bali nij dham padava/ Nagar log sab byakul dhava//

Nana bidhi bilaap kar Tara/ Choote kes na deh sambhaala//

Sriramji send Bali to Param Dham: The abode of Vishnu. All the citizens, hearing news of their Raja’s demise, raced towards the spot. Queen Tara, was wailing desperately; her hair was loose and her body was trembling…( She was not in control of her own senses due to her intense grief)

*

Tara bikal dekhi Raghuraya/ Deenh gyan hari leenhi maya//

Chiti jal paavak gagan sameera/ Panch rachit ati adham sareera//

Seeing the grief of Tara, Sriramji guided her with wise words and helped her to overcome her ignorance. ( The Lord pointed out the illusionary nature of the universe)

He said: This extremely vulnerable body has been made from five elements- earth, water, fire, sky and air.

*

Pragat so tanu tav aagem sova/ Jeev nitya kehi lagi tumh rova//

Upja gyan charan tab laagi/Leenhesi param bhagati bar maagi//

The body  (of Bali) is seemingly sleeping in front of you but his soul is eternal. So what are you wailing for? When Tara’s inner eyes opened, she cast herself onto the Lord’s feet and prayed for unending devotion to the Lord.

*

Uma daru joshit ki naayi/ Sabahi nachavat Ramu gosayi//

Tab Sugreevahi aayasu deenha/ Mritak karma bidhivat sab keenha//

Lord Shiv says: Hey Uma! See how the Lord makes everyone dance like a puppet!

Afterwards, SreeRamji ordered Sugreev to conduct all rites of death of his brother Bali.

Kishkindha Kanda -13 Bali Speaks…

IMG_2138

Doha:

Sunahu Ram Swami san chal na chaturi mori/

Prabhu ajahu maim paapi anthkaal gati tori//

Bali said: Hey SriRamji! You will not be deceived by my worldly tricks ( explanations)! Tell me, inspite of being near You  at the time of my demise, shall I remain sinful?

*

Sunat Ram ati komal baani/Baali sees parasevu nij paani//

Achal karaum tanu rakhavu praana/Baali kaha sunu Kripanidhaana//

Listening to the extremely pleasing words of Bali, the Lord touched the head of Baali gently.

He said, “I can spare your life, keep your body.” Baali said, Listen, Oh, Compassionate One!

*

Janam janam muni jatanu karahim/ Anth Ram kahi aavat nahim//

Jasu naam bal Sankar Kasi / Det samahi sam gati abhinasi//

Sages praise You in multiple ways in multiple lives. Yet many are not fortunate to utter thy name, ‘ Ram’ towards their end.

By the radiance of Whose name, in Kashi, Lord Shankara bestows moksha on everyone alike…

*

Mam lochan gochar soyi aava/ Bahuru ki Prabhu as banihi banaava//

That glorious SreeRamji himself  is ( You, My Lord ) gracing me with his presence now! Would such a fortunate time occur ever again?

*

So nayan gochar jaasu gun nit neti kahi Shruti gavahim//

Jiti pavan mann go niras kari muni dhyan kabahuk pavahim//

Mohi jaani athi abhimaan bas Prabhu kahehu rakhu sareerahi/

As kavan sad hadi kaatu surataru bari karihi baboorahi//

The One whom Shrutis praise  as ‘ Neti Neti’ ( Not this, neither that), The One , whom by meditation, saints  who control all senses, over coming limitations of body and mind, even so rarely attain a glimpse of- that Lord himself stands by my side! Knowing my conceit, you allowed me to keep my body! Tell me, who can be such a fool who chooses to willingly to cut off the Kalpataru( eternal tree) and plant thorny babool trees in its place? ( Why would anyone demand the boon of keeping this mortal body before the Giver of Moksha?)

Kishkindha Kanda: 12 Bali Questions The Lord

IMG_2136

Para bikal mahi sar ke lagem/ Puni ud baid dekhi Prabhu agem//

Syam gaat sir jata banaye/ Arun nayan sar chaap chadayem//

As the arrow pierced his chest, Bali fell in agony. But seeing the Lord walking towards him, he struggled and sat up

The Lord was blue-black hued , his hair was bound- in a jata, the eyes were red, and he wore his bow and arrows.

*

Puni puni chitayi charan chit deenha/Subhal janma maana Prabhu cheenha//

Hridayam preeti mukh bachan kadora/ Bola chitayi Ram ki ora//

Bali looked wonderingly at the Lord, and his heart was surrendered at the Lord’s feet.

His heart was overwhelmed, but his words were brutal. Looking at SreeRamji, he spoke thus…

*

Dharm hetu avatarehu Gosayim/ Marehu mohi byadh ki nayim//

Maim bairy Sugreev piyaara/ Avagun kavan naadh mohi maara//

Hey Gosayi! ( Mendicant ) You have taken this avatar to protect Dharma, and you  slyly slew me by foregoing it?

I am your enemy and Sugreev is your friend? Hey Lord! For what fault of mine have you taken my life?

*

Anuj badhu bhaginy sut naary/Sunu sad kanya sam a chaary//

Eenhi kudrishti bilokayi joyi/Taahi badhem kacchu paap na hoyi//

The Lord said: Hey Fool! Listen to me. A brother’s wife, sister, daughter-in-law and tender aged girl- they should be considered in the same way

Whoever looks at them with an evil eye, there is no sin in killing them.

*

Note: Baali had taken Sugreev’s wife Tara as his consort as per legends

*

Mood, tohi atisay abhimaana/ Naari sikhavan karasi na kaana//

Mam bhuj bal aashrit tehi jaani/Maara chahasi adham abhimaani//

Hey fool! You are such an egotist!  You did not even listen to the  wise counsel of your wife.

You arrogant creature! Even knowing that Sugreev was under my protection, you wished to kill him!

*

Kishkindha Kanda: 10 ( Bali Param Hith Jasu Prasada)

IMG_2134

Bali param hith jasu prasada/ Milehu  Ram tumh saman bishada//

Sapnem jehi san hoyi larayi/  Jagem samuchat mann sakuchayi//

Hey SreeRamji! Bali is my ultimate well wisher, because  he is the reason behind my meeting you- the destroyer of woes!

Now if I fight with him even in my dreams, I shall, on waking up, feel remorseful about it.

*

Ab Prabhu kripa karahu ehi bhanti/ Sab taji bhajanu karau din raati//

Suni biraag sanchut kapi baani/ Bole bihasi Ramu dhanupaani//

My Lord! Now bless me that I give up all worldly attachments and devote myself to chanting of your name, day and night!

Seeing the detachment which had taken hold of Sugreev momentarily, Sree Ramji, his bow in hand, smiled and replied…

*

Jo kacchu kahehu satya sab soyi/ Sakha bachan mam mrisha na hoyi//

Nat markat iva sabahi nachavat/ Ramu khages ved as gaavat//

Whatever you said is right, but my spoken words shall not be in vain ( Bali shall die and you shall inherit the kingdom)

Kakabhushundi says: ‘ Hey Garudji! The Vedas say that Lord  Ram makes everyone dance in this worldly play, like a  gypsy directs his captive monkey!’

*

Lai Sugreev sangh Raghunatha/ Chale chap sayak gahi hatha//

Tab Raghupathy Sugreev padava/Garjesy jaayi nikat bal paava//

After that, Sree Ramji with his bow in hand, proceeded from that place with Sugreev.

Ramji sent Sugreev to Bali, and he getting inspired by SreeRamji’s presence challenged Bali with a ferocious growl.

*

Sunat Bali krodhatur dhaava/ Gahi kar charan naari samuchaava//

Sunu pati jeenhi milevu Sugreeva/Te dvau bandhu tej bal seemva//

On hearing Sugreev’s challenge, an enraged Bali ran from his palace. His wife Tara, fell at his feet and started pleading with him.

Hey Lord! Listen, the two brothers that Sugreev has befriended, they epitomise strength and radiance!

*

Kosales sut Lacchiman Rama/ Kalahu jeeti sakahim samgrama//

Those two sons of Raja Dasrat, the King of Kosala, can defeat even Yama/ Kala( Lord of Death/ Lord of Time) in a battlefield!

*

Doha:

Kah Bali sunu bhiru  priya samadarsy Raghunadh/

Jaum kadhachi mohi marahim tau puni hovum sanadh//

Bali spoke- My fearstruck beloved, listen, Sree Ramji is  even tempered ( equanimous) ( ie, He does not favour one over another)

Even suppose that He kills me, I will  be attaining  His holy abode!

Tarahim Bhav Sindhu Bina Jaljaan(50): You Can Cross The Worldly Ocean Without Any Other Means

IMG_1511.JPG

SreeRamCharit Manas’ Fifth Canto (Sopan)  named SundarKanda Ends:

The Ocean suggests a way

*

Nadh Neel Nal kapi dvau bhai/ larikayim rishi aasish payi//

Tinh kem paras kiyem giri bhare/tarihahim jaladhy pratap tumhare//

The Ocean said-You have Neel and Nal, two monkey brothers with you, they have obtained a boon from an ascetic in their childhood

If they touch anything, even a mountain turns light, and with your blessings, will float on the waters of the ocean

(Note: Nal and Neel were the architects and engineers of the ancient bridge connecting Rameshwaram with Lanka. They were remarkably brilliant in their field as per folk lores)

*

Mai puni ur dhari Prabhu prabhutai/karihavu bal anuman sahayi//

Ehi bidhi nadh payodhi bandhayiya/jehim yeh sujasu lok tihu gaayiya//

I will also keep Your Grace in my heart, and try to help as much as I can (  as per my capability in this task)

Hey Lord! Bind down the ocean( Build a bridge- setubandan) in such a manner that the three worlds sing praises of Your Glory!

*

Ehim sir mam uttar tat baasy/hatahu nadh khal nar agh raasy//

Suni Kripal sagar mann peera/turatahim hari Ram randheera//

Please kill off the wicked clan of human beings who reside on my northern shores with Your arrow

Hearing the agony of the Ocean, the valorous and compassionate SreeRamji killed off the wicked ones  immediatly

*

Dekhi Ram bal paurush bhary/harshy payonidhi bhayavu sukhari//

Sakal charit kahi prabhuhi sunava/charan bandi payodhi sidhava//

Seeing SreeRamji’s radiance and great strength, the Ocean was gratified and content,

He narrated the stories of those wicked ones to SreeRamji, then bowing before the Lord’s feet, the Ocean God returned to his abode

*

Nij bhavan gavanevu sindhu SreeRaghupathihi yeh mat bhayavu/

Yeh charit kali malhar jadhamati das Tulsi gayavu//

Sukh bhavan sansay saman davan bishad Raghupathy guna gana/

Taji sakal aas bharos gaavahi sunahi santat sad mana//

The ocean returned to its abode, SreeRaghunathji liked his solution

This story removes all the sins accrued in Kali Yug, TulsiDas has sung it as per his wits ( according to his intelligence)

Sree Ramji  is an incarnation of all great qualities- He gives joy absolute, removes all doubts, and vanquishes all agonies

Hey Stupid Mind ! Let go of all worldy attachments and desires, (and instead of that) sing and listen to this great story

*

Doha:

Sakal sumangal dayak Ragunayak gun gaan/

Sadar sunahim te tarahim bhav sindhu bina jaljaan//

Singing the praises of SreeRamji brings in all auspicious tidings

Those who listen to it with respect, will cross over the worldly ocean without resorting to any other means ( the Lord’s meditation acts as a safe-boat)

*

Iti Sreemadramcharitmanase sakalakliklushvidhvamsane pancham sopanah samamtah/

The Fifth Canto ( Sundar Kanda) of SreeRamcharitmanas, which removes all the sins accrued in Kali Yug ends here.

*

Personal Note: In these 50 blogs across two months, I have obtained  immense joy and peace; as I attempted  to understand the beautiful lines of Sundar Kanda of Goswami Tulsidasji’s great SreeRamcharitmanas.

May the compassionate Lord bless you all!

Karaum So Begi Jo Tumhahi Sohayi (49):Whatever You Wish, I Shall Immediately Carry Out

IMG_1509.JPG

God of Ocean (Varuna) speaks to SreeRamji (Sundar Kanda continued)

*

Sabhay sindhu gahi pad prabhu kere/cchamahu nadh sab avgun mere//

Gagan sameer anahl jal dhari/eenh kayi nadh sahaj jad karni//

The Ocean God( Varuna) caught hold of SreeRamji’s feet in fear and said- Lord! Please forgive  all my faults

The sky, air, fire, water and earth( panchbootha) are prone by nature to be indifferent in action ( not proactive)

*

Tav prerit Mayam upjaye/srishti hetu sab grandhani gaye//

Prabhu ayasu jehi kah jas ahayi/so tehi bhaanti rahe sukh lahayi//

Due to your powers, Maya has created these elements for purposes of Creation- all the ancient texts say that,

Whatever be the nature assigned  by the Lord, the element stays  contentedly within its purview

*

Prabhu bhal keenh mohi sikkh deenhi/marjada puni tumhari keenhi//

Dol gawar sudra pasu naary/sakal tadana ke adhikary//

Lord, you did the proper thing by punishing me, but the nature of things- that too has been designed by You!

The drum, the illiterate, the lowly evolved soul, the animal, the woman- they all get punished ( taught) due to their nature

(Note: One gets an insight into the socio cultural forces at work in ancient times- not much different from today-where patriarchy and lack of empathy with those marginalised existed in society)

*

Prabhu pratap mai jaab sukhayi/utarihi kataku na mori badayi//

Prabhu agya apel shruti gaayi/karaum so begi jo tumhahi sohayi//

Due to your powers, I will dry up and the army will cross over- but that will be against the nature of the ocean( as an element of nature)

Yet Your command has to be obeyed, that is the decree from the Vedas, now whatever You may suggest, I shall immediately carry out!

*

Doha:

Sunat bineet bachan ati kah kripal musukai/

Jehi bidhi utarai kapi kataku tat so kahu upayi//

Listening to the very humble words of the Ocean, the compassionate Raghunathji smiled and said-

Hey Son! Suggest a way that the army of monkeys can cross over you

*
